The Power of Waiting on God

Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Devotional:

Waiting is not something most of us enjoy, especially in a fast-paced world where we expect immediate results. Yet, Scripture tells us that waiting on God is not wasted time. In Isaiah 40:31, we are reminded that those who wait on the Lord will have their strength renewed. Waiting on God involves trusting His timing, His wisdom, and His plan, even when it doesn’t align with our own expectations. It’s during these periods of waiting that God is often doing some of His most profound work within us—building our faith, refining our character, and teaching us to rely on Him more deeply.

Today, let’s embrace the power of waiting on God through these intentional actions:

  1. Trust God’s Timing: Surrender your desire to rush things and trust that God’s timing is perfect. He knows what’s best and will act at the right time.
  2. Strengthen Your Faith in the Waiting: Use seasons of waiting as opportunities to deepen your faith. Spend more time in prayer, study Scripture, and reflect on God’s promises.
  3. Be Active in the Wait: Waiting on God doesn’t mean doing nothing. Serve others, continue to grow, and remain faithful in what He has already called you to do while you wait for what’s next.
  4. Resist Anxiety: It’s easy to become anxious when waiting for answers or direction. Replace worry with trust, constantly reminding yourself that God is in control.
  5. Look for Growth: Recognize that waiting often brings spiritual growth. Ask God to reveal the lessons He’s teaching you during this time, and be open to personal transformation.

Action Plan:

  1. Identify an area of your life where you are currently waiting for something—whether it’s an answer to prayer, direction, or change. Ask God for patience and strength during this time.
  2. Memorize Isaiah 40:31 and reflect on it whenever you feel weary in the waiting, reminding yourself that God will renew your strength.
  3. Spend extra time in prayer each day, specifically asking for peace in the waiting. Use this time to listen for God’s voice and trust in His timing.
  4. Look for one way to serve others during your waiting season. This could be through volunteering, supporting a friend, or simply being present for someone in need.
  5. Journal about your waiting process, recording the lessons you’re learning and how God is shaping you during this time. Reflect on how your faith is growing as you trust in Him.

As you wait on the Lord, may you experience the renewal of strength that comes from trusting in Him. Let your waiting be a time of growth, deepening your relationship with God and refining your character. Remember, waiting on God is not passive—it is an active, faith-filled process that will ultimately lead to soaring on wings like eagles, running without growing weary, and walking without fainting. Trust that God is working in the waiting, and He will fulfill His purposes in His perfect timing.
